My boyfriend and I would like to move into an upper scale two bedroom apartment (rent between 1500-2100/mo) somewhere just outside of Boston. We want to live in a town/neighborhood that is close to the T but also close enough for a short driving commute into downtown. It has to be a safe neighborhood and relatively quiet (sick of Allston parties and drunk kids...). Any ideas? We were thinking of Medford or Cambridge?
I live in Medford and would recommend it. Its very safe and quiet, definitely not like Allston. There's really not any bars in Medford however, I think its a semi-dry city. There are many restaurants though and Davis Square in Somerville is a very short distance away. Also, 93 is right there so it is a real quick ride into Boston. The orange line is available in too, along with many bus routes. You should definitely be able to find an apartment within the ranges you are looking for. Cambridge is also nice however I don't think it is as convenient to get to.
Dump him and you can live with me at my parents place in my little bedroom.
Arlington, Belmont are really less crowded than Cambridge, close to T, 5 miles from Boston. Bike trail leads straight to Alewife T Station.
Safe, quiet, and in that price range. Nice, small town feel.
Newton Corner would be an ideal place, especially if you are near the Watertown Bus yard which has express buses to Downtown and Copley. Also it is right off of the Mass Pike exit and Storrow Drive.
How about Winchester, Melrose, Belmont, Arlington? Don't blame you for being sick of Allston - It's kind of depressing there?
Both Medford and Cambridge are really nice. Both have excellent access to the T!
I like Medford because it has many charming older houses, and quiet side streets. I think that Medford is a bit more family oriented.
Cambridge has some much more upscale locations though. Lots of gorgeous renovated Victorian houses. I think it's a younger crowd. Lots of college kids. Definatly more culture in Cambridge. The restaurants in Cambridge cant be beat!
Good Luck!
Ok, southside suggestions? Braintree, Canton, Weymouth. Check commuter line schedules, and layout. Rode commuter line for years, plenty of options. You going to have noice in cambridge. LMAO
Medford is fine, Malden/Melrose is even better. There is a brand new large upscale apartment/town house development right on the city line, within walking distance of Oak Grove (Orange line) or Wyoming (purple line commuter rail) Stations; also 2 bus lines.
How about Brighton? Just depends on the area. Like near Saint Columbkille church, which is going toward Newton.
You might want to check out Lowell. Its kind of far but the T goes there and you can get a really really nice apartment for what your asking,
